I have this old shed in the backyard that I decided a year ago is going to be my She Shed. Here’s the problem, the previous old homeowner put siding on the shed and let it rot, so mice and spiders love it.
Well I love it too so they are being evicted. I contacted a slew of handymen who wanted to charge me 3800 to replace just the siding. Ugh no, material is 500. Yep so guess what, I’m doing it myself. I am going to buy the T1-11 board, two sheets at a time and fix this old girl myself.
Have I ever done this before? Nope. Do I have a circular saw? Yep. Do I have a nail gun? Nope but I have a drill , electric screw driver and a shitload of screws. Do I know how to do an accurate measurement? Nope but i will figure it out, after all what is you tube for anyway.
This is going to be great, the shed couldn’t get worse so what do i have to lose other than a few hundred bucks and my sanity, ha
No one could have told me what getting old entails so let me educate those under 55. For both women and men when you hit 50 your hormones develop a mind of their own. Your metabolism quits, completely. You can eat a carrot and gain 5 lbs.
Now lets talk skin, holy hairdo my skin is like a snake, I have lines in places that should not have lines. I look in the mirror and hairs grow out of my chin at lightening speed. I keep a tweezer in every car I own and in every bathroom. Oh and a razor thing for lip hair.
The moral of this post is, I’ve decided that I don’t give a shit at this point. I am going to do whatever the hell I want, hair color, clothes, glasses(my signature) whenever I want, I have a tribe that supports me unconditionally. In celebration of pride, pink hair, don’t care. Love your life
We have booked our next trip to Mexico and I can honestly say that I love everything about this place. The people, the food, the traditional crafts, and of course it is beautiful. I have often thought that we could live here full-time and cannot imagine why anyone would want to leave but then I remind myself that people struggle here and are paid nothing. I am fortunate to have opportunities others can only dream of but just maybe this is my chance to make a difference.
Now I just need to research how? When we go to Mexico how can I help the culture and the country? If you have ideas, send them my way.
We have for several years adopted senior dogs. Most people want puppies, but our last 2 rescues have been older girls. PunkinSpice Latte was used for breeding, she is brindle and when her last litter was still born she was dumped by the dumb ass breeder. Great for us.
We love both of them and are proud to provide these 2 old girls in their golden years with their very best life. Punkin is hug a bunch and wants kisses and wants to be right up next to you. Milly is not affectionate, she does not want to be held but does like face rubs and likes to sleep on the bed. Milly will poop wherever if you don’t pay attention, I continue to try and convince my husband this is just her bring old as I am the same way.
Milly Vanilly was surrendered because her person had to go into a nursing home. We named her Milly because her previous was Lilly. Little did we know her hearing is all but gone except for loud noises, and her eye sight is limited, at night the grey eye haze is evident. Oh and she exhibits all the characteristics of dementia
Each is funny and entertaining so we treat then individually and laugh each day. We have a huge yard and Milly thinks she is a track star. She will run from end to end 20 times while Punkin just watches.
I have taken 2 trips to Mexico in the past two years. Both times I have stayed at beautiful resorts that went out of their way to provide impeccable service. I thought surely this was just because it was a resort so I ventured out to explore the local areas. I am amazed at first the work ethic of the Mexican people, the joy, and the appreciation for the smallest things.
I then got to thinking about how impatient people in the US are and how entitled it appears we have all become. I am including myself in this statement so don’t come at me. Let me explain, I was standing at a small stand where people get drinks and the young man was making drinks as fast as he possible could, he acknowledged everyone as they arrived to ensure you knew he saw you.
Shortly after this greeting, a group of 5 caucasian men came up and snapped their fingers “stating Senor’ we have not yet been waited on”. What the hell? Do you not see this person doing everything they can to keep up and make you feel welcome. It took me a few minutes, yes I counted to 10 to ensure I would not cuss these ignorant entitled asshole men out. This is just one example of the things I observed.
I have to ask when did it become ok to treat another person with such disrespect?
When is it ok to think you are the most important person in the room and have complete disregard for EVERYONE else?
How can the Mexican community be so accommodating and happy when we know they are getting paid nothing?
What would ever make a person think it is ok to treat another person as less than?
What is the point of this post you ask? I truly came home after each visit and had such an appreciation for the beauty of Mexico, the wonderful people, and vowed to change the way I approach life in general. If a store is out of something you want, oh well. If you don’t get your food when you think it should be served, be glad you have food at all. Treat every person with kindness, no one is more important than anyone else, although I felt I have always done this a reminder is always welcome. In my humble opinion, the appreciation of things has taken over society, when truly what is important are relationships and caring for others.
I will no step down off my soap box, Thanks for tuning in
We recently traveled to my son and his girlfriends house for the holidays. She had this fancy Nespresso Machine and a massive amount of flavors and sizes of pods to pick from. I tasted espresso, medium size and large cups of java. Let me say this little machine and the pods were fantastic. Now I do not know how expensive the machine or pods are but they do provide free recycle for the pods which is great. I would love for them to send me a machine to try (probably low probability of that happening) but I certainly did love the coffee on my week long visit.
I believe that when you are wrong you need to own up to it, so here goes. I have always said that those little electric self propelled disk vacuums were for lazy people. This was based mostly on my love of vacuuming. Yes I love to vacuum, I know it’s a sickness
My youngest son received a Roomba for Christmas last year. He has beautiful dark floors in his house that are impossible to keep clean. Drop a crumb and you see it, which of course would make me crazy. This little device (Roo) starts at the same time each morning and I was amazed at what that little thing picked up. This does not replace deep cleaning. (my opinion because I love to vacuum)
Of course being the saver that I am, I went directly to facebook marketplace to see what kind of deal I could find. $250 is not a lot of money but I will save as I am the thrift queen. I scored a pet model, maker is BOB Sweep, no I am not being paid to promote them but I wish they would send me some free stuff, as this little sweeper is AMAZING… It has a remote control, multiple settings, it’s own charging station, and a mop function. Who knew
We named our guy Obi Wan Vacobi. Obi goes all over the house every morning and picks up the hair from our 2 little dogs. The first time I emptied the container, I almost passed out. Ugh, who knew that so much stuff collected everyday. I still vacuum like a maniac but just knowing that Obi continually gets the small stuff is great.
I was wrong go get one, look on a re sale site first, ha
I had always heard that once you turn 50 or atleast get close to it that the metabolism changes. Well holy hairdo, does it. The hormones changes at 53 (soon to be 54) has brought my metabolism to a screeching halt.
I have had to say hello to a belly that is not cute, can you say bloat. Now in fairness to my body, I do love wine and it is not a friend of hormone menopause belly. I have thought about cutting out my wine for 30 days but then ask myself “will I want to do this longterm”? ugh NO, I am an owner in a winery, so this is out (Willamette Valley) winery if you are interested. What are other options:
walk everyday- already doing this, when it is nice outside I do atleast 3 miles a day and if it’s rainy the treadmill at the gym is my backup
eat less- I can do this and just need to get inspired to do so
lift weights- I like to lift, but sometimes making it to the gym does not happen, I have purchased weights for home so now I have no excuses
Last and what this post is all about is a jump rope challenge. I saw this video on TicToc and the girl was doing 1000 jumps per day using a digital jump rope. I went out to Amazon and bought the least expensive cute pink electronic jump rope I could find and have decided to commit to 30 days of doing 1000 jumps per day.
This morning was day 1, I did the first 100 and thought I was going to die, and mind you I walk everyday. This means nothing, jumping rope is different. I completed the first 500 and will do the next 500 on my lunch hour. I will be posting updates to my blog and TicToc (@ssgreenbean) if you want to see my progress. Come on all you over 50 folks, let’s get fit together or just have fun trying something new, either way it’s a win win..
I don’t know how it’s possible to be so excited about a laundry room but mine is amazing. It now doubles as a game room and a mini bar. It can not get any better and the color makes my heart happy. Now if I could just get someone to fill up that wine rack I’d be great. Hope you love it too
