I had always heard that once you turn 50 or atleast get close to it that the metabolism changes. Well holy hairdo, does it. The hormones changes at 53 (soon to be 54) has brought my metabolism to a screeching halt.
I have had to say hello to a belly that is not cute, can you say bloat. Now in fairness to my body, I do love wine and it is not a friend of hormone menopause belly. I have thought about cutting out my wine for 30 days but then ask myself “will I want to do this longterm”? ugh NO, I am an owner in a winery, so this is out (Willamette Valley) winery if you are interested. What are other options:
walk everyday- already doing this, when it is nice outside I do atleast 3 miles a day and if it’s rainy the treadmill at the gym is my backup
eat less- I can do this and just need to get inspired to do so
lift weights- I like to lift, but sometimes making it to the gym does not happen, I have purchased weights for home so now I have no excuses
Last and what this post is all about is a jump rope challenge. I saw this video on TicToc and the girl was doing 1000 jumps per day using a digital jump rope. I went out to Amazon and bought the least expensive cute pink electronic jump rope I could find and have decided to commit to 30 days of doing 1000 jumps per day.
This morning was day 1, I did the first 100 and thought I was going to die, and mind you I walk everyday. This means nothing, jumping rope is different. I completed the first 500 and will do the next 500 on my lunch hour. I will be posting updates to my blog and TicToc (@ssgreenbean) if you want to see my progress. Come on all you over 50 folks, let’s get fit together or just have fun trying something new, either way it’s a win win..
My husband and I walk every morning at 4 am. Our neighbor man leaves food out for one eye Bob (a old raccoon) and the stray cats in the neighborhood so we have seen Bob multiple times and he is completely preoccupied with eating.
When I see a raccoon I think of this cute little furry animal.
My husband thinks rabid animal.
This morning as we are headed out the the street from our house we hear a noise and coming into our driveway is a raccoon, Oh my god I have never seen my husband move so fast he took off and was through the gate before I could move. He left me as raccoon bait, ha. I watched the little guy, he heads to the backyard and is gone. No injuries.
I at this point tell my husband that the threat is gone and he comes out of the gate and we head down the street. He spots 2 more raccoons and says oh hell no there’s a whole family we are not walking today and forces me go back in the house to get our exercise via you tube. I at this point am laughing so hard I can hardly speak and he keeps saying to me repeat after me, run means runs.
before and after
It’s a wrap, I’m done, finished, completed the 24 day challenge and I feel great. I believe that you have to cleanse your body from all the crap we normally eat and attempt to change what we put in our mouths. You can choose the link and see the before and after photos, I see a huge difference, especially the back and belly but then I look at myself everyday too.
As stated in a previous post I followed the plan with the exception of the vitamin packs. The whole motivation for me was to reduce toxins and eliminate stomach bloat (cause I love my wine) and I succeeded. I work out 3 days a week anyway so the exercise was the easy part. I am 5’2 and weigh anywhere between 120 and 124 so weight loss is not a goal of mine. For all women I think it is important to focus on health and NOT WEIGHT, ok don’t start BY SAYING YEAH it’s easy for me to say cause your 120 lbs. Newsflash I used to be 180 and I felt great then too but when I changed my eating habits I lost weight by default not by dieting and have been the same for over 20 years now even thru my pregnancies, yep it’s the food and the exercise. So don’t get discouraged, one of my favorite quotes from Nike is “you don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great”
