Thank God a New Year 2020

A New Year

To say that 2019 was one hell of a ride is an understatement. If you follow my blog you know that my oldest son was incarcerated as part of the good ole boy network and the asinine mandatory minimum sentencing laws in Idaho, my dad passed away unexpectedly, both my old rescue dogs died, and I wrote a book about all this craziness. “Mad as Hell, A Mom’s Journey”

I am thrilled to say I made it through and truly am grateful for all that I learned in 2019.
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t EVER want to repeat that shit, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason:
1. Love your family, this for me is not just blood relatives
* Know who shows up when you need them and those that you only hear from when they need something
* I am that ride or die momma for those I love
2. Have empathy and compassion- you never know what is happening in someone’s life
* A kind word or smile truly makes a difference
* Don’t judge until you have walked in someone else’s shoes
* We are all 2 paychecks away from being homeless
3. Drugs are not a choice
* Do some research before you open your mouth
* Drugs take over the neurons in the brain (dopamine)
* Not all addicts relapse or become dealers to support their habit
* Recovery is possible
* Not all addicts recover the same way
If I have learned nothing else in 2019 it is that no one has your best interests at heart but you, research, rely on facts, and be an advocate for those that can’t do it for themselves.
Oh and last, adopt a shelter dog, people are dumb, dogs are great and we all need some companionship and to feel needed. Here is my rescue, Punkin Spice Latte Starr

New Year, Get After It

Long time between posts but it’s been crazy, this flu virus sent my entire household to the ER for dehydration and now trying to knock out the cold season. We got 12 inches of snow in Portland which shuts down the city and shows me all the crazies. People abandon their cars on the freeway, what? I grew up with snow so it’s hard for me to fathom that people have no common sense, ugh you can freeze by walking, stay in your car and run the heater intermittent til help arrives, duh…. also been working hard on the 2017 vision board, lots of goals to accomplish this year. Each one offers an opportunity to improve and we are never to old to reach for the stars. Get after it

Happy New Year

I have never been someone who makes New Years resolutions because I believe that each day you have the opportunity at anytime to make a change, so each year I use January as a time to create new goals and update my vision board. Last year I completed 3 of the things on my vision board, yep that’s right my student loans are a wrap, that’s right zero, goose egg, nada. I also secured a new fantastic job in a new state and moved across the country. In my opinion these 3 are fantastic accomplishments but I want to encourage everyone to continually strive for more. In 2015 most of my goals have to do with paying OFF anything that has a credit line attached to it, this includes cards, cars, loans, etc. By doing this I will be in a position to search for a new home to buy with no other financial responsibilities, now how nice would that be? Now to the fun stuff, laugh a lot, hike as many different trails in Oregon as possible, rent a vintage rv in the willamette valley with the family and try a new wine once a week. You all know, I like my wine… As a mom, my goal is to allow my sons who are grown to develop into successful men without my input or help. Ok I’m a control freak and this is oh oh so difficult but that is how I became independent and driven and I am certain this will help them too. So here’s to a great New Year, write your success one day at a time
